Project Description:
SPEC Services provided engineering, design, permit acquisition, construction support, and project management services for the hydrotesting of the Blythe to Chino segments of the Southern California Gas Company 30-inch Line 2000 pipeline.
The project consisted of 10 individual hydrotest segments. The engineering and design for each test segment included the installation of two temporary test heads, the temporary removal of and reconnection of pipeline taps, and the isolation of each test segment from the pipeline system during each hydrotest. The project also included the design and installation of three permanent bypass pipelines which allowed Southern California Gas Company customers who use large volumes of natural gas to continue to be supplied with gas during the segment isolation.
The engineering and design services included preparation of construction drawings, permit drawings, and record drawings. Additionally, SPEC provided documentation control and assistance with specifications and material procurement support. SPEC worked closely with county and municipal sewer and water agencies, numerous local city and county governments, and Caltrans in the process of acquiring construction permits for the project.
As part of the project, SPEC also provided engineering, design, and drawing preparation for nine additional hydrotest segments from the Blythe to Cabazon area which were placed on hold and will be finalized and constructed at a future date.
