Project Description:

SPEC Services provided engineering and design for increasing the oil and water separation capacity of Platform Holly, offshore Santa Barbara, allowing all produced water to be injected offshore rather than requiring wet oil to be shipped to an onshore processing facility. The scope of work included modification of existing separators and piping as well as the installation of a new electrostatic treater.

The design and installation used laser scan data to verify that new equipment could be moved into and installed in access-restricted areas. The horizontal vessel had to suspended vertically as it was lowered through the upper deck, with very tight clearances as it transitioned to horizontal as it lowered below that deck.

The project was presented as “Reconfiguring a California Platform for Offshore Crude Dehydration and Water Disposal via Injection” at the SPE Western Regional
Meeting 2010.
